-Antwerp Rotary, Tue. Jan 16

The Antwerp Rotary Club is a service organization dedicated to serving their local community. On January 18, 2007, immediately prior to the start of the varsity basketball game against Wayne Trace, the Rotary Club is presenting a dedication ceremony. For its' 2006-2007 community service project, the Rotary Club has arranged for a new motorized American flag to be installed in the gymnasium at the Antwerp High School. The public is invited to attend this special event and to see the unfurling of the new flag for the first time.

The flag is 18' long by 12' wide and will be installed to the truss at the top of the gymnasium. It will hang horizontally in front of the home team bench. The motorized flag is a large electric video screen in a case but the screen is removed and an American flag is placed inside the case. The wooden screen case is 20' 10" long. The flag will be lowered for the singing of the national anthem and raised at the end of the song. It is operated with a remote control.

Various other community organizations have contributed to the project including the Varsity "A" Club, American Legion Post 253, and V.F.W. Post 5087. The American Legion and the V.F.W. posts will have their honor guards present to contribute to the dedication of the new American flag.

Dan Weideman is supplying the lettering on the side of the wooden flag case. Schweller Electric will install the flag on Monday, January 15, 2007.
