Michelle Dooley won 1st place $600 cash prize from the V.E.T.S. latest $700 Cash Raffle fundraiser.
Michelle's offer to give back her $600 winnings to V.E.T.S. is one of many generous offers from the Dooley family to help our Veterans from Antwerp. Steve from Kammeyer's IGA won the 2nd place cash prize of $100. Thanks to everyone who purchased a ticket, we are one step closer toward the funds needed to pour the concrete foundations and platform. This Phase II project will give our Civil War Soldier his new home.
Keith West was instrumental in getting 100 tickets sold in just a few weeks. This drawing took place during half-time of the Antwerp Archer Varsity vs. Edon Bombers basketball game on February 14, 2009. Barry DeLong chose the winning tickets. The Archers won the ballgame! What a night!
It's easy to "toot" our own horn, but look around our community. You will see many generous residents more than willing to offer assistance in what every way they can. ACDC is an all volunteer group working on the Railroad Depot west of Antwerp. The Antwerp Athletic Association volunteers are working hard to give the Archers a "state of the art" running track. Michelle and her friends worked to give the community a wonderful new playground for our children at Veterans Memorial Riverside Park. This is just a few of the more current happenings in Antwerp.
The Dooley's have been very generous since the inception of V.E.T.S. with not only monetary help but with advice and ideas to help us earn the funds it took to get Phase I in progress. They continue to help all organizations that make Antwerp a better place to work & live.
V.E.T.S. has many ideas & implementing most of them to raise the funds for our Veterans memorial. We just completed a mass mailing to area businesses asking to be included in their 2009 charitable donations. We will have a Monday night once a month Cruise-In over the summer, 1-day Bus trip to Wright Patterson Air Force Museum & shopping at the Greene in Dayton, Two-day Garage Sales & Saturday night Cruise-In during the Village wide sales June 13 & 14, Golf Outing at Pond-A_River Golf Club June 27th. A Poker Run possibly in July. August 8th brings us Day in the Park which V.E.T.S. are working on a Veterans Parade using the Classic Cars to start off that event. August 9th will be a program by Wind Valley Productions featuring Celtic Native American Culture flute music by Jerold Dowding. Arm Chair Horse Racing is a possibility in September along with much more in the making to finish out 2009.
On going will be granite pavers for sale. 4" x 8" x 2" cost $100 and 8" x 8" x 2" cost $175 to engrave and install. Pictured here is the 8" x 8" for $175. Forms may be picked up at Antwerp Exchange Bank, Antwerp Pharmacy & H & W Automotive at this time. They will be installed in the walkway to the memorial. This is one way to honor those special to you or your family. The paver does not have to be military related, but V.E.T.S reserves the right to reject any inappropriate wording. This memorial will be kept sacred to our Veterans honoring their Time Served. The paver pictured in this article is 8" x 8" x 2" which costs $175.00
Area Veterans: Please do not assume we know who your are or that you are a Veteran. You or a family member must provide honorable service information to be included on your memorial.
Donation may be sent to V.E.T.S. P.O. Box 742, Antwerp, OH 45813
Call (419) 399-5764 for additional information, ideas and offers to help.
Thanks, VETS volunteers
